SWAT Cat on the mend after missing for weeks: Boston Police

Cats really do have nine lives and this Boston feline has proved it.

The Boston Police Department’s beloved “SWAT Cat” became famous after she disappeared and then miraculously turned up weeks later.

SWAT Cat “joined the BPD in 2013 when she began prowling around the Boston Police Special Weapons and Tactics base, rolling over for belly rubs from the officers, and showing up for chow time with the unit,” according to the department.

The police are now giving more details on the condition that SWAT Cat was in when she returned and how she is recovering:

“On Thursday, January 14, 2016, ‘SWAT Cat’ returned to duty after having been missing for several weeks. The officers were happy she had returned safely but after a couple of days, they began to notice she was not acting like herself. She appeared to have lost weight during her unexplained absence and did not have her usual appetite. Over the weekend, officers brought their ailing team member to Dr. Daniel Castillo, owner of the Franklin Veterinary Clinic on East Central Street in Franklin MA, where she was treated for dehydration and given a thorough examination. She remains at the clinic at this time, pending the outcome of several tests but is expected to be released later [Tuesday] with a clean bill of health. Dr. Castillo volunteered his time and services after a friend and member of the SWAT Team brought the matter to his attention. Good deeds are nothing new to Dr. Castillo, who in the aftermath of the events of 9/11, spent several days treating search and rescue dogs in New York City free of charge. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Castillo and his entire staff at the Franklin Veterinary Clinic for stepping up to take care of our SWAT Team mascot.”
