SXSW concert review: BØRNS

BØRNS four-song EP “Candy” has only been out for four months, but the band’s single “Electric Love” is already gaining momentum, being highlighted on Spotify and Sirius radio. The band was a keynote at YouTube’s Discover showcase Thursday, playing their full EP, plus a new song, “American Money,” which they dedicated to “all the strippers in the audience.” As their EP title suggests, their sound is sweet and sugary; an airy blend of glam rock and electronica.

The ‘70s influence is apparent not only in the music, but in frontman Damon Campbell’s proclivity for the word “groovy.” The short set was well received, though after just 25 minutes, the songs started to sound the same, making one wonder if they have enough to build on to headline down the road.
