A New Jersey teen is facing animal cruelty charges after she was allegedly captured on video throwing a cat off a third-floor balcony.
The disturbing incidentis believed to have taken place on Thursday when Tikeemah J. Lassiter, 19, of Clinton, was visiting relatives in Newark, police said.
A video that went up on social media shows a woman, who authorities believe to be Lassiter, hurling the cat over the balcony, three stories to the sidewalk. Police were alerted to the video after a “concerned citizen” saw it online. Though the cat doesn’t appear to move in the video, the animal survived and was turned over to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, police said.
Lassiter, who reportedly does not own the cat, was arrested Saturday and charged with animal cruelty.A $10,000 warrant had also been issued for Lassiter’s arrest by New Jersey Transit Police for an assault, according to police. After a vet examines the cat, the agency will determine where to place it.
