London is back to being the world’s top city for cocktails.
That’s according to the annual list of the World’s 50 Best Bars, which awarded the top spot to the American Bar and The Savoy Hotel. London also claimed second place with Dandelyan, another hotel bar inside the Mondrian, and had the most bars of any city represented on the list with eight entries.
New York City’s The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog won the coveted Best Bar title last year, but came in fifth this year. The highest-placed New York City bar was the venerable NoMad Bar at No. 3.
Overall, the list featured bars from 25 cities across four continents ranked by more than 500 cocktail experts including bartenders, journalists, consultants and other spirits specialists. Each member chooses seven noteworthy bars based on the best drinks, ambiance and service they encountered in the past 19 months.
In an attempt to add variety to the list — New York and London aren’t the only places where you can get a decent cocktail, after all — voters must choose at least three bars outside of their own country.
