The Cat in the Hat is running for president

The Cat in the Hat arrived fashionably late to the party when he announced his candidacy for president in the upcoming election on Tuesday.

A crowd waited outside Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel’s childhood home in Springfield,Massachusetts, for running mates Thing 1 and Thing 2, Springfield City Council President Michael Fenton, Sen. James Welch and the Cat to make the big announcement as the one and only Kids’ Candidate, according to Mass Live.

The Cat addressed the audience through Susan Brandt, the president of Dr.Seuss Enterprises and the Cat’s campaign manager.

The Cat in the Hat for President campaign comes with the release of “One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote,” a nonfiction book written to introduce and teach young readers about basic principles of the government, its function and inception, through rhyme.

Brandt said the Cat is giving children the power to choose which issues he will focus on by voting online for one of five options. Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises plan to make a $10,000 donation to the charity linked to the issue that receives the most votes. The charities include First Book, Oceana, Conservation International, Feed the Childrenand Pacer Center.

During the short news conference, the Cat was asked whether he would release his tax returns, according to Mass Live.

“I will be fully transparent,” he said.
