Tight end continues to be the position of the misfit toys in fantasy football as no player has more than three touchdowns this season. In fact, no player has more than 335 yards receiving.
Here are a few marquee tight ends to watch this week.
Greg Olsen, TE, Panthers
He’s been the best tight end in the game so far, which is basically like saying he’s the cleanest pig in the pig pen. He’s a definite start in all leagues but owners shouldn’t expect too many monster games in the coming weeks. After a 122-yard, one touchdown performance against the 49ers two weeks ago –he had just 64 yards receiving against the Vikings and this past Sunday he did not have a catch heading into the fourth quarter. If Cam Newton’s injuries continue to linger, expect Olsen’s numbers to be average at best. Olsen also plays a Buccaneers defense this week that gives up the fourth fewest fantasy points to tight ends. Verdict: Definite start
Eric Ebron, TE, Lions
Eric Ebron is on pace for his best season ever as he has 18 catches for 210 yards this season. The issue here is that Ebron has found the end zone just once this season, in Week 1 against Indianapolis. Ebron was nicked up in the Lions’ loss to Chicago, injuring an ankle and knee, but he should be good to go for Detroit’s matchup against the undefeated Eagles this Sunday. Philly’s defense looks very good, and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz wouldn’t mind sticking it to his former employer again, but expect Matthew Stafford and Co. to ring up at least 20 points or so at home. The key here is for Ebron to find the end zone. Verdict: Start, unless you have Greg Olsen or Gronk
