When the group ejects her from the party, Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) utters the now-famous phrase, “Bye, Felicia.” So are we witnessing the saying’s roots? It was a coincidence that her name was Felicia in the script, and it was just an off-the-cuff improv moment,” director F. Gary Gray explains. “The creation of ‘Bye Felicia’ actually happened in rehearsals for my movie ‘Friday.’ We put it in ‘Friday,’ and somehow it just took on a life of its own. I have no idea how or why it’s even relevant right now. For the life of me I wish I was smart enough to tell you how and why, but I’m rolling with it.”
