A new app is literally taking out the middleman, and allowing users to find their perfect match — but this match isn’t an actualguy — it’s just his sperm.
The app, from London Sperm Bank Donors is the first of its kind in the UK and is meant to address “the acute shortage of sperm donated in the UK,” according to the Dispatch Weekly. Users, like a dating app, can, according to its nickname, “order a daddy,” through the UK’s largest donor catalog, Mashable reported. But donors are assigned numbers not names to remain anonymous and have no photos. Once users have their “wish list” of attributes and characteristics, they are alerted by notification to potential matches. Once a donor is chosen, the sample is given to the woman’s fertility specialist, according to Dispatch Weekly. “You make all the transactions online, like you do anything else these days. This allows a woman who wants to get a sperm donor to gain control in the privacy of her own home and to choose and decide in her own time. We think this is the first-of-its-kind in the world,” Dr Kamal Ahuja — scientific director of the London Sperm Bank — told The Sunday Times, according to Mashable.
