How to experience the best of fall foliage 2018 in New England
Set sail
A cruise trip may not be the first activity that comes to mind when thinking about fall foliage, but it is a great way to experience the best of autumn in New England. The Classic Harbor Line Boston’s fall foliage brunch cruise will set sail again this fall beginning Oct. 13, and running through Nov. 11. Guests will get a chance to see amazing views while enjoying a tasty three-course brunch ($70 per adult) aboard a 1920s-style motor yacht.
Take a hike
If you want an up close and personal view of fall foliage this season, there’s no shortage of amazing hiking spots and trails to choose from in New England. Head to Maine for the Fore River Sanctuary, a gorgeous 85-acre preserve that’s also home to Portland’s only natural waterfall, Jewell Falls. For a scenic spot closer to home, check out the Bay State’s own Mohawk Trail State Forest, which covers nearly 6,000 acres. Swing by the trail in Pittsfield on Sept. 30 to celebrate the season with the 63rd Fall Foliage Parade. And if you’re in the Connecticut area, check out the Appalachian Trail for amazing fall foliage views along the Housatonic River.

If you’re looking for a scenic drive through some of the region’s top spots for fall foliage, we’ve got a few recommendations for you. The Moosehead Lake region of Maine is a picturesque area that’s perfect for a weekend leaf peeping drive. Maine’s Acadia Loop Road is a beautiful drive as well, featuring amazing views of the mountains and the sea. New Hampshire’s Kancamagus Highway is another great spot to enjoy the season, offering miles and miles of foliage to see along the White Mountain National Forest.
