Say you’re the type who hits the elliptical or the treadmill a couple times a week. You want gym access for the occasional sweat sesh, but maybe you wouldn’t use one frequently enough to justify a monthly membership.

A new fitness app, called POPin, will allow you to drop in to members-only gyms and pay by the minute. The rate, which varies per gym, ranges from $.09 o $.25 a minute, so if you log 20 minutes on the treadmill, it won’t run you more than $5. And it’s flexible: you can pop in anytime and stay as long as you like.

The beta version, which launches on July 17, (with the first session free), will only give you access to four gym locations: Mercedes Club and CompleteBody gyms located in FiDi, Flatiron and Chelsea. But a rep for the company tells us that they plan to expand their offerings when they launch officially. The concept is convenient, “on-the-go fitness,” so that no matter where you are or the confines of your schedule, you can pull up the gym closest to you and get in a workout. It’s also a cost-effective option for travelers who don’t want to skip their exercise.

“Flexible fitness is synonymous with POPiN,” Dalton Han, Co-Founder and CEO said in a statement. “We sought to create a platform that grants people complete control over their workout routine and fitness budget while giving gyms access to a new customer base.”

Users can use any number of machines and amenities, including the pool and sauna, and any classes, depending on availability: At this point, it’s drop-in only, although POPiN plans to make reserving ahead an option.

Those who download the POPiN app on July 17 or after can participate in free pop-up workouts throughout the summer. Check POPiN on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for the announcements.
