TLC cancels 19 Kids and Counting

TLC announced on Thursday morning that the network had canceled popular reality show “19 Kids and Counting” following months of controversy surrounding news of sexual abuse in the large family.

Josh Duggar, one of the family’s sixteen children, admitted to his parents that he had molested several of his sisters when he was a teenager. The incidents did not become public knowledge until a police report from 2006 was published in May.

Following the revelation TLC pulled reruns of the show from it’s schedule, but did not state at the time whether or not the show would be canceled.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation,” Josh Duggar wrote in a statement posted to the family’s website. “I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions.”

Discovery announced that TLC will be airing a commercial free documentary about child-molestation. The one hour long piece will feature the two Duggar sisters that Josh Duggar abused.

Prior to the controversy “19 Kids and Counting” was TLC’s most popular program.
