It started in the barbershops and in the newspapers.
And as technology has progressed, so too has complaining, arguing, criticizing and yelling about sports.
In the digital age, with AM radio on the decline a recent movement toward podcasts has moved the conversation onto your mobile device.
Here’s a brief look at our 10 favorite sports-related podcasts, spanning all major sports, in no particular order:
The Bill Simmons Podcast
Simmons has begun to forge his new sports media empire thanks to his partnership with HBO and his burgeoning website, The Ringer.
In his bi-weekly podcast, Simmons has spent most of his time trying to guess NFL betting lines and convince listeners his Celtics would eclipse the 53-win total in 2016-17. His biasm is funny and part of the appeal and his musings are essential for any sports fan. Jalen and Jacoby
What do you get when you mix a former Fab Five and NBA superstar with an insightful and funny former ESPN producer? An out of take on all things sports, Jalen Rose and David Jacoby are easy to listen to. They’ve taken the leap from simply living on the internet to having an ESPN radio and TV show, but the show continues to stay true to its podcast roots. Fantasy Focus

Our second entry from Bill Simmons’ empire,Joe House and Geoff Shackelfordhost a show dedicated to golf and the PGA Tour — the best you can find. Top notchguests like Patrick Reed appear on the recently created program. Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell
Remember we said sports related? Gladwell’s audio masterpiece — which looks back at 10 misunderstood events in history — can’t help but circle back to one of his passions, sports. One of the best parts of his series focuses on Wilt Chamberlain’s free throw shooting technique. Another compares the education system to soccer teams in Europe, while another talks about the best way to build a successful pro sports franchise. Bang the book
This program focuses on sports through the scope of gambling, breaking down the best bets in the NFL, NCAA football, NBA and others. It’s at the top of most charts for sports podcast popularity and looks to the handicappers themselves for betting advice. Freakonomics Radio
This cast is another that is off the beaten path for sports fans but does have relevance to sports fans in a real way. Episodes of the long-running show, which studies “the hidden side of everything,” often discuss — through the scope of economics — sports, philosophy and game theory. How do you get better at a task? How do you win? How do you psych out your opponents? Pardon My Take
The Barstool Sports guys talk Barstool Sports stuff, but it’s not as raunchy as you might think. Sometimes they actually get serious. They had the MMQB’s Peter King on earlier this month as well as former NFL ref Mike Pereira. The Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!
Audio porn for the wrestling geek, grappling’s biggest box office attraction goes inside the insane world of pro wrestling.
Enough About Me with Kirk Minihane
This one has great sports media episodes as Minihane has done podcasts with former ESPN ombudsman Robert Lipsyte and James Andrew Miller, who wrote the tell-all ESPN book a few years back.
