These transgender celebrities have done a lot by bravely sharing their stories with the public. But we can’t forget about people who aren’t in the spotlight. Peope like transman Jaimie Wilson, who courageously share their journeys as well. Wilson, a musician, DJ and trans advocate, has chronicled his transition. He often shares before-and-after photos, on Instagram, with words of encouragement for others who may be struggling after coming out to family and friends. “I am posting this picture to show thatnot everyone has to show ‘signs’ to be transgender,” Wilson captioned one recent photo of himself alongside a pre-transition bikini shot.
Wilson wrote that when he came out as a man, “people refused to believe” because of how “feminine” he had been up until that time.
“You don’t have to pass a test to prove you’re trans … and you sure as hell don’t need ANYONES (sic) approval but your own. This life is about finding yourself and becoming YOU,” Wilson wrote. And to the families and friends of people who bravely come out as gay, transgender or bisexual, Wilson says, “Please believe them and be there for them because stereotypes need to be broken.” Wilson said in a previous postthat he lost his family after coming out, but is “forever grateful” to his more than 118,000 followers and supporters.
“People always say ‘the world is full of terrible people’ but I think the opposite! The support and acceptance you all show me makes me believe the world is full of awesome people like yourselves. I don’t know what I did to deserve you all.” Sounds like all he had to be was himself.
