An NYC transgender woman is speaking out after she was reportedly attacked on the D train in January.
Alleged attack victim Jennifer Louise Lopez described the Saturday, Jan. 30 uptown D Train assault in a Tuesday interview with NY1. She said fellow commuters restrained the woman who attacked her, but that the assault continued at the 125th Street stop. “She barreled right through the people and came at me and started punching me, hitting me, and, I mean, just all over the place,” Lopez told NY1. “We are all susceptible to being attacked, we are all prone to being attacked, unfortunately. Of course, that’s not something that we want, and it’s something that needs to stop.” RELATED: Investigators believe attack on transgender Queens woman was domestic fight Police are investigating the alleged attack as a hate crime, NY1 reported.
Lopez is the founder and director of the publication Everything Transgender in NYC, according to the ETNYC website. “The unidentified assailant scratched her, shattered her glasses, and punched her in the face and eye multiple times causing significant damage necessitating emergency eye surgery. She runs the risk of losing sight in that eye,” according to a post on ETNYC.
