President Donald Trump once told Howard Stern he thought O.J. Simpson was framed for his ex-wife’s murder.
Just one month after Simpson was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, Trump talked with shock jock Howard Stern on the air about how he thought the ex-footballer could have been framed for the crime.
At the time, 76 percent of whites and just 22 percent of blacks thought Simpson was guilty. Twenty-two years later, 79 percent of whites and 41 percent of blacks now think Simpson did it, according to a new CBS poll.
The conversation where Trump said his suspicions came to light just recently when more than 15 hours of conversations between Stern and Trump were published to the website factba.se.
“Well, I know how much you like O.J. and I know how, how innocent you feel he is,” Trump said as Stern asked him about how Simpson attended Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples.
“And because, you know, don’t forget, there wasn’t that much blood found in the Jeep. There was only about 50 drops,” Trump continued.
“Yeah, that’s not, that’s not that much,” Stern answered.
“Yeah, it’s a pretty sad deal, I’ll tell you,” Trump said.
“That could have been planted somehow,” Stern said.
“Yeah it could have been. Fifty different people could have planted it,” Trump said.
“I don’t think the LAPD is that smart,” Trump added.
In the same conversation, Trump talked with Stern about his non-existent Vietnam draft experience and the pair even joked about how everyone (wrongly) thought Trump was running for president in 1987 when his first book, “The Art of the Deal” came out. Trump, of course, would eventually launch a campaign for the presidency.
“All of a sudden everyone said I was a presidential candidate,” Trump said. “Showed you had hard up they were. One good speech and you’re president.”
