As soon as Kevin De Bruyne’s face became nearly as red as Belgium’s jerseys in the United States-Belgium World Cup showdown Tuesday, Twitter exploded with references to Chris Owen’s character from the film “American Pie,” the oft-hated but secretly loved, “Sherminator.” See video below if you’re too young or unfamiliar:
Personally, I think De Bruyne is a dead-ringer for Scott Farkus from “A Christmas Story” or maybe one of the lost O’Doyle brothers from “Billy Madison” … but that’s just me.
