Upon the actual release date of their “Songs of Innocence” album, U2 uploaded a Facebook video today where they answered questions from fans.
This video, by the way, did not just end up in your Facebook feed without your consent.
And on that note, among the questions posed to the band, was this one from an FB user (and former U2 fan?) named Harriet Madeline Jobson: Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to people’s playlists ever again? It’s really rude.
As bassist Adam Clayton reads the question aloud, he seems to wear a sheepish grin, but Bono takes the answer in stride and actually seems quite sincere in his explanation.
“Oops,” he says. “I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea … might have gotten carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years might not be heard. There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess, we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it.”
