DUBAI (Reuters) -Uber’s Middle East business Careem is looking to hire more than 200 people, according to a company LinkedIn post, as it expands the roll out of its “Super App” which offers services outside its core ride-hailing business.
Careem said it was looking to fill jobs “from engineers to data analysts, operations managers to platform designers, and everything in between.”
The company was bought by Uber Technologies Inc in 2019 for $3.1 billion, giving the U.S. firm market dominance across the Middle East and Pakistan.
Ruth Fletcher, senior vice president of People at Careem, said in a statement the market opportunity for a ‘Super App’, offering services such as food delivery, digital payments and courier services, in Careem’s region is worth trillions.
She said the company, which also operates in North Africa, continues to grow its presence across ride-hailing, food and grocery delivery, payments and micro-mobility – which refers to a range of small, lightweight vehicles.
“As we expand these services to more markets we’re looking for smart and ambitious people,” the statement said.
Uber’s initial public offering in 2019, after it acquired Careem, raised $8.1 billion from investors and valued the company at $82.4 billion.
Reuters reported in December that Uber was in talks with the management of Careem to bring outside investors into the business, citing four sources familiar with the matter.
