The most important part of a college campus might just be the dining hall — there’s a reason the “freshman 15” weight gain is so well-known — and students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have apparently hit the culinary jackpot.

The Princeton Review gave the college its vote as having the best campus food,Bostonmagazine pointed out. To celebrate, the university mascot, Sam the Minuteman, went on the “Today” show Tuesday morning to serve such dining-hall samples as pulled pork sliders and mille-feuille, a French pastry.

“We’re pleased to see thatThe Princeton Reviewhas recognized what all of us at UMass Amherst have long known: when it comes to college food, UMass Dining can’t be beat,” Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy said in a statement.

For the 25th edition of their best colleges ranking, The Princeton Review surveyed 143,000 students from across the country about a variety of topics, from best campus food to best career services and even happiest students, according to the Review.

A few other Massachusetts schools landed among those lists; Worcester Polytechnical Institute earned first place for the best study abroad program; Bentley University in Waltham got the number one spot for best career services; and Wellesley College was honored for having the top-rated professors.
