A dead body found in a wooded area in Wakefield is believed to be a the result of a homicide, according to authorities.
A man riddled with gunshot wounds was found inside a vehicle off Sunset Drive Tuesday night. Both Wakefield Police Chief Richard Smith and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan believe the man was killed. Update 1:45 p.m. The man has been identified as Jeffrey Raphael, 30, of Lynn.
Police received a call from a passerby around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
“The Wakefield Police Department received a 911 call Tuesday evening which led them to the crime scene,” said Ryan in a statement. “When officers arrived at the location, they found a body inside a vehicle. While this is an active investigation we would like members of the public to know that this does not appear to be a random act of violence.” Smith, the Wakefield Police Chief, said his department would “pursue all investigative leads.”
