It’s been a week since both the New York Times and The New Yorker published exposés on Harvey Weinstein, levying allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape against him. Since then, more victims — actresses, costume designers, television reporters and former employees — have come forward, sharing their own experiences with Weinstein and exposing the imbalance of power and the culture of exploitation in the film industry.
Here, we have a list of the celebrity women who have come forward with their own experiences with the Hollywood producer. We’ll update as more women come forward.
Ashley Judd
According to the New York Times, two decades ago Weinstein invited Judd to what Judd thought was a business breakfast meeting. Instead, she was sent up to his room where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could either give her a massage or watch him shower. “How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?” she remembers thinking.
Asia Argento
The Italian actress alleges that she was raped by Weinstein when she was 21-years-old. “He asks me to give a massage. I was, like, ‘Look, man, I am no fucking fool,’” Argento told Ronan Farrow for The New Yorker. “But, looking back, I am a fucking fool. And I am still trying to come to grips with what happened.” Afterwards, Argento says that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her as she told him, over and over, to stop. “[He] terrified me, and he was so big. It wouldn’t stop. It was a nightmare.”
Argento admits to having a sexual relationship with the media mogul for five years afterwards, too, saying she felt “obliged” to submit to his sexual advances. “After the rape, he won,” she says.
Angelina Jolie
Jolie recalls, via an email sent to the New York Times, that Weinstein made unwanted advances on her in a hotel room. “I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did. This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable.”
Angie Everhart
Everhart, an actress, opened up about her own experience on KLOS.
“I went to the Venice Film Festival and I was on somebody’s boat, and I had just arrived, and I was sleeping. It was in my bed, and you know boats aren’t very big spaces sometimes. And I wake up, and Harvey is standing above my bed. That alone is frightening … All of a sudden he takes his pants down, and starts doing his stuff. And he’s blocking the door, I can’t get out … I don’t know how to say this on the radio, but [he] finishes on the carpet on the floor.”
Cara Delevingne
The actress and model posted a statement to her Instagram describing an “odd and uncomfortable encounter with Weinstein. After bragging about “all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers,” he apparently spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature.” Then, upon finding out that Delevingne is bisexual, he invited her to his room for an attempted threesome.
“When I arrived I was relieved to find another woman in his room and thought immediately I was safe,” she writes. “He asked us to kiss and she began some sort of advances upon his direction. I swiftly got up and asked him if he knew that I could sing. And I began to sing….I thought it would make the situation better….more professional….like an audition….I was so nervous. After singing I said again that I had to leave. He walked me to the door and stood in front of it and tried to kiss me on the lips. I stopped him and managed to get out of the room.”
Claire Forlani
The “Meet Joe Black” actress recalled via Twitter her numerous experiences with Weinstein — and how she escaped them. “You see, nothing happened to me with Harvey — by that I mean, I escaped 5 times,” she wrote. “I had two Peninsula Hotel meetings in the evening with Harvey and all I remember was I ducked, dived and ultimately got out of there without getting slobbered over, well just a bit. Yes, massage was suggested. The three dinners with Harvey I don’t really remember the time period, I was 25. I remember him telling me all the actresses who had slept with him and what he had done for them.”
Emma de Caunes
De Caunes — a French actress — told the New Yorker that Weinstein once emerged from the shower, naked and erect, and told her to lie on the bed.
“I was very petrified,” de Caunes said. “But I didn’t want to show him that I was petrified, because I could feel that the more I was freaking out, the more he was excited.” She added, “It was like a hunter with a wild animal. The fear turns him on.” De Caunes told Weinstein that she was leaving, and he panicked. “We haven’t done anything!” she remembered him saying. “It’s like being in a Walt Disney movie!”
Eva Green
The “Penny Dreadful” actress’ mother — Marlene Jobert — said in a radio interview that Weinstein threatened to destroy Green professionally after she refused his advances.
“He operated with her the exact same way he acted with all the others, under the pretext of a professional meeting, of a script that had to get to her with a nice part into the bargain…
“Since his office was also in his hotel suite, [Eva] followed him, and the exact same thing happened to her as to the others. She managed to escape, but he threatened to destroy her professionally.”
Green herself recounted the experience, saying she hadn’t spoken out before in an effort to maintain her privacy. “I wish to address comments made by my mother in a recent interview regarding Harvey Weinstein,” she said in a statement to Variety. “I met him for a business meeting in Paris where he behaved inappropriately and I had to push him off. I got away without it going further, but the experience left me shocked and disgusted.”
Florence Darel
The French actress says that Weinstein propositioned her, while his wife Georgina Chapman was next door. “He started to tell me that he found me very attractive and wanted to have relations with me,” Darel tells Le Parisien. “I told him I was very in love with my companion. He replied that didn’t bother him at all and offered to have me be his mistress a few days a year. That way we could continue to work together. Basically, it was ‘If you want to continue in America, you have to go through me.’ ”
Gwyneth Paltrow
When Paltrow was 22-years-old, Weinstein placed his hands on her and suggested “they head to the bedroom for massages,” the actress tells The New York Times.
“I was a kid, I was signed up, I was petrified,” Paltrow recalls. After refusing Weinstein’s advances and confiding in then-boyfriend Brad Pitt, the producer demanded she not tell anyone else about his come on. “He screamed at me for a long time. It was brutal.”
Heather Graham
Graham says that Weinstein implied she had to have sex with him to earn a film role. “In the early 2000s Harvey Weinstein called me into his office,” she writes for Variety. “‘I want to put you in one of my movies,’ he said and offered to let me choose which one I liked best. Later in the conversation, he mentioned that he had an agreement with his wife. He could sleep with whomever he wanted when he was out of town. I walked out of the meeting feeling uneasy. There was no explicit mention that to star in one of those films I had to sleep with him, but the subtext was there.”
Jessica Barth
Barth told the New Yorker that Weinstein made advances on her in a hotel room.
Barth said that, in the conversation that followed, he alternated between offering to cast her in a film and demanding a naked massage in bed. “So, what would happen if, say, we’re having some champagne and I take my clothes off and you give me a massage?” she recalled him asking. “And I’m, like, ‘That’s not going to happen.’ ”
When she moved toward the door to leave, Weinstein lashed out, saying that she needed to lose weight “to compete with Mila Kunis,” and then, apparently in an effort to mollify her, promising a meeting with one of his female executives.
Kate Beckinsale
Via Instagram, Beckinsale shared her own experience with Weinstein at age 17 — and it’s frighteningly similar to the others. “He opened the door in his bathrobe. I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him. After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed. A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting. I realized he couldn’t remember if he had assaulted me or not. I had what I thought were boundaries — I said no to him professionally many times over the years — some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a c—t and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh ‘Kate lives to say no to me.'”
Lauren Holly
Holly, a Canadian actress, shared her own story on The Social.
“He told me I looked stressed. He said that maybe he thought I could use a massage. Maybe I could give him a massage. I began sort of babbling like I was a child. I think it was fear. I said, ‘I don’t know how to give a massage, I don’t have a massage license. Maybe if I called the front desk I could get a masseuse to come here.’ I didn’t know what to do, honestly. And then he began to get angry. And I began to get really afraid to be honest. I had to get out of there.”
Léa Seydoux
In an essay published on The Guardian, the “Blue is the Warmest Color” actress writes that she met Weinstein at a fashion show — and she immediately figured him out. “He had a lecherous look,” she writes. “He was using his power to get sex. He invited me to come to his hotel room for a drink. We went up together. It was hard to say no because he’s so powerful. All the girls are scared of him.”
She then writes that after his assistant left the two of them alone, Weinstein lost control. “We were talking on the sofa when he suddenly jumped on me and tried to kiss me. I had to defend myself. He’s big and fat, so I had to be forceful to resist him. I left his room, thoroughly disgusted.”
Lena Headey
The actress, most famous for playing Cersei on “Game of Thrones,” recounted her own experience with Weinstein via Twitter. “The first time I met Harvey Weinstein was at the Venice Film Festival,” she wrote. “‘The Brothers Grimm’ was showing there (during shooting I was subjected to endless bullying by the director Terry Gilliam). At one point, Harvey asked me to take a walk down to the water. I walked down with him and he stopped and made some suggestive comment, a gesture. I just laughed it off. I was genuinely shocked. I remember thinking, it’s got to be a joke, I said something like… ‘Oh come on mate, it’d be like kissing my dad! Let’s go get a drink, get back to the others.’ I was never in any other Miramax film.”
Headey also wrote of another close call with the disgraced producer.
“The next time was in L.A. Years later… I believed that he respected my boundary and maybe he wanted to talk about potential work. He asked me to meet for breakfast. We ate breakfast, we talked about films, film making. He asked me a few questions about the state of my love life. I shifted the conversation back to something less personal. Then he went to the loo. He came back and said, ‘Let’s go up to the room, I want to give you a script.’ We walked to the lift and the energy shifted, my whole body went into high alert… I said to Harvey, ‘I’m not interested in anything other than work, please don’t think I got in here with you for any other reason, nothing is going to happen.”
He was silent after I spoke, furious. We got out of the lift and walked to his room. His hands was on my back, he was marching me forward, not a word, I felt completely powerless. He tried his key card and it didn’t work, then he got really angry. He walked me back to the lift, through the hotel to the valet, by grabbing and holding tightly to the back of my arm. He paid for my car and whispered in my ear, ‘Don’t tell anyone about this, not your manager, not your agent.’ I got into my car and I cried.”
Louisette Geiss
The actress and screenwriter admitted during a recent press conference that she too was a victim of Weinstein.
“He seemed genuinely interested in the script I had co-written. After 30 minutes he excused himself to go to the bathroom. He returned in a robe with the front open, buck-naked,” she went on. “He told me to keep talking about my film and that he was going to get into his hot tub which was in the room adjacent to his office, steps away. I kept talking as he got into the hot tub. When I finished my pitch, he asked me to watch him masturbate. I told him I was leaving. He quickly got out of the hot tub. As I went to get my purse to leave, he grabbed my forearm and pulled me to his bathroom and pleaded with me to watch him masturbate.”
Lysette Anthony
The British actress tells the Sunday Times that Weinstein stalked her and raped her in her own home.
“In her account, published for the first time today by The Sunday Times, she claims that she became friendly with Weinstein after meeting him in New York. But everything changed when she met him for a drink at his rented home in Chelsea a few years later. ‘The next thing I knew he was half undressed and he grabbed me,’ she said.
‘It was the last thing I expected and I fled. That was when the predatory stalking began.’
One day he turned up at her flat at about 10am: ‘He pushed me inside and rammed me up against the coat rack . . . He was trying to kiss me and shove inside me.’ She pushed him away but he was too heavy: ‘Finally I just gave up.’
‘As he ground himself against me and shoved inside me, I kept my eyes shut tight, held my breath and just let him get on with it…
‘He came over my leg like a dog and then left. It was pathetic, revolting…I remember lying in the bath, crying.’”
Minka Kelly
The “Friday Night Lights” actress took to Instagram to detail the time Weinstein tried to convince her to be his girlfriend.
“I met Harvey at an industry party. The following day, my agent said he wanted to see me for a general meeting. The location was set for his hotel room. I wasn’t comfortable with going to his room & said so. The following day, we sat down with an assistant in the hotel restaurant. He bulls—t me for 5 minutes re: movies he could put me in, then asked the assistant to excuse us. As she walked away, he said, “I know you were feeling what I was feeling when we met the other night” and then regaled me with offers of a lavish life filled with trips around the world on private planes etc. IF I would be his girlfriend. Or, “We could just keep this professional.” All I knew was not to offend this very powerful man and to get out of the situation as quickly as possible.”
Mira Sorvino
The “Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion” actress says Weinstein sexually harassed her and attempted to pursue a physical relationship when they worked together on “Mighty Aphrodite.” “He started massaging my shoulders, which made me very uncomfortable, and then tried to get more physical, sort of chasing me around,” she tells The New Yorker.
She also thinks that saying “no” to the producer — and reporting the harassment to a female Miramax employee — ultimately hurt her career. “There may have been other factors,” she says. “But I definitely felt iced out and that my rejection of Harvey had something to do with it.”
Rosanna Arquette
Arquette remembers a meeting with Weinstein in the early ‘90s, and like Sorvino, says her career suffered for saying no to him. From the New Yorker —
Arquette recalled that, when she arrived at the room, Weinstein opened the door wearing a white bathrobe. Weinstein said that his neck was sore and that he needed a massage. She told him that she could recommend a good masseuse. “Then he grabbed my hand,” she said. He put it on his neck. When she yanked her hand away, she told me, Weinstein grabbed it again and pulled it toward his penis, which was visible and erect. “My heart was really racing. I was in a fight-or-flight moment,” she said. She told Weinstein, “I will never do that.”
Weinstein told her that she was making a huge mistake by rejecting him, and named an actress and a model who he claimed had given in to his sexual overtures and whose careers he said he had advanced as a result. Arquette said she told him, “I’ll never be that girl,” and left.
Rose McGowan
According to the New York Times, McGowan — who has been outspoken about the allegations against both Weinstein and Ben Affleck — won $100,000 in a settlement after an episode in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival. She was 23. She’s made rape allegations against Weinstein on her Twitter.
Lupita Nyong’o
The actress wrote, in an op-ed for the New York Times, that she was sexually harassed by Weinstein starting from 2011. After inviting her to his home, Weinstein asked whether he could give Nyong’o a massage — while his children were in the next room. He later propositioned her a second time, asking her to join him in a “private room.”
Before the starters arrived, he announced: “Let’s cut to the chase. I have a private room upstairs where we can have the rest of our meal.” I was stunned. I told him I preferred to eat in the restaurant. He told me not to be so naive. If I wanted to be an actress, then I had to be willing to do this sort of thing. He said he had dated Famous Actress X and Y and look where that had gotten them.
I was silent for a while before I mustered up the courage to politely decline his offer. “You have no idea what you are passing up,” he said. “With all due respect, I would not be able to sleep at night if I did what you are asking, so I must pass,” I replied.
Annabella Sciorra
The “Sopranos” actress tells the New Yorker that Weinstein violently raped her in the early ’90s, and harassed her for many years afterwards.
He shoved me onto the bed, and he got on top of me.” Sciorra struggled. “I kicked and I yelled,” she said, but Weinstein locked her arms over her head with one hand and forced sexual intercourse on her. “When he was done, he ejaculated on my leg, and on my nightgown.” It was a family heirloom, handed down from relatives in Italy and embroidered in white cotton. “He said, ‘I have impeccable timing,’ and then he said, ‘This is for you.’ ” Sciorra paused. “And then he attempted to perform oral sex on me. And I struggled, but I had very little strength left in me.” Sciorra said that her body started to shake violently. “I think, in a way, that’s what made him leave, because it looked like I was having a seizure or something.”
Brit Marling
“The O.A.” creator wrote in the Atlantic that she’d had her own experience with Weinstein, with him suggesting that they shower together — during a meeting in a hotel room.
I, too, went to the meeting thinking that perhaps my entire life was about to change for the better. I, too, was asked to meet him in a hotel bar. I, too, met a young, female assistant there who said the meeting had been moved upstairs to his suite because he was a very busy man. I, too, felt my guard go up but was calmed by the presence of another woman my age beside me. I, too, felt terror in the pit of my stomach when that young woman left the room and I was suddenly alone with him. I, too, was asked if I wanted a massage, champagne, strawberries. I, too, sat in that chair paralyzed by mounting fear when he suggested we shower together. What could I do? How not to offend this man, this gatekeeper, who could anoint or destroy me?
Natassia Malthe
During a press conference, the Norwegian actress recalled a time where she was assaulted by Weinstein in a London hotel room in 2008.
“When I opened the door, he barged into the room,” and, she said, after making it clear that she did not want to have any kind of sexual relationship with him, he assaulted her against her will.
“I played dead” during the assault, she said. “Afterwards, I laid there in complete disgust.”
Sean Young
The “Blade Runner” actress told the Hollywood Reporter that Weinstein once exposed himself to her.
“My basic response was, ‘You know, Harvey, I really don’t think you should be pulling that thing out, it’s not very pretty,'” Young said. “And then leaving, and then never having another meeting with that guy again, because it was like, ‘What on earth?'”
Heather Kerr
Kerr, who formerly worked as an actress, said in a press conference that Weinstein forced her to touch his penis.
“He asked me if I was good,” Kerr said. “I started to tell him about my training and acting experience and he said, ‘No. I need to know if you’re good.’ He said if he was going to introduce me around town, he needed to know if I was ‘good.’ He kept repeating that word.”
Kerr, who appeared on the shows “The Facts of Life” and “Mama’s Family,” said, while she was sitting on a couch with Weinstein, he unzipped his pants, pulled out his penis, grabbed her hand, forced it onto his organ, and held it there.
“He said this is how things work in Hollywood and all actresses who’d made it, did it this way,” she added.
Paz de la Huerta
De la Huerta opened up to Vanity Fair about her own experience with Weinstein, alleging that he raped her twice in 2010.
“Immediately when we got inside the house, he started to kiss me and I kind of brushed [him] away,” de la Huerta said. “Then he pushed me onto the bed and his pants were down and he lifted up my skirt. I felt afraid. . . . It wasn’t consensual . . . It happened very quickly. . . . He stuck himself inside me. . . . When he was done he said he’d be calling me. I kind of just laid on the bed in shock.”
De la Huerta described a second assault that allegedly happened in late December 2010, when Weinstein showed up in her building lobby after she came home from a photo shoot. The actress said she had been drinking, and was frightened by Weinstein, who had been repeatedly calling her, despite her asking him to leave her alone. “He hushed me and said, ‘Let’s talk about this in your apartment,’” de la Huerta said. “I was in no state. I was so terrified of him. . . . I did say no, and when he was on top of me I said, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ He kept humping me and it was disgusting. He’s like a pig. . . . He raped me.”
