It’s a big week for Ansel Elgort. First, his new movie with Shailene Woodley “Insurgent” premeired last night in New York City, the second in Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” series. And now, the actor and budding DJ has released a remix of Galantis’s “Runaway (U and I.)”
“I wrote what I wanted to be a break for this big club record. And on top of these chords that I wrote for the break, I wrote a melody,” he tells GQ magazine of his new song.
“I thought the vocals on [the original “Runaway” track] were incredible, and I would sing along to it all the time. I was then on my computer looking at blogs and Soundcloud, and on this blog I saw Galantis was giving away the a capella voice track for free so that fans could remix it. So I downloaded it, and as was working on my own track again, I realized I was singing ‘Runway’ over it. But if you take away the vocal, the entire song is new. I didn’t use any stems from the original track, just the vocal.”
