Video captures trio stealing Jesus statue from Brooklyn church: NYPD

Police are looking for a group of suspects who were caught on video stealing from a Brooklyn place of worship last month.

On April 30 at about 2:07 a.m. the three individuals — believed to be two women and one man — were in front of the Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church at 71 South 3rd St. when they decided to take the outdoor statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, according to authorities.

In a surveillance video, released by police Friday morning, one of the women can be seen removing the statue off a podium and the three then run away from the scene.

According to the New York Daily News, the sculpture was donated to the Williamsburg church after another statue was stolen from the church in 2012.

“We just want it back,” Mother Superior Bendita told the Daily News. “It’s not the material. It’s what it represents. It’s something really sacred for us.”
