It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a… bear?
If you swung by the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway on Monday afternoon, you may have seen a furry creature soar through the skies on the park’s new zipline attraction. Don’t worry, ursine mammals haven’t learned how to flow. It was just the bear from the Boston Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker.”
In celebration of tickets going on sale for the upcoming holiday production, the company created a video of one of its costumed performers taking a ride on the Z. The bear even wore its ballet slippers for the sky high trip.
You don’t see that everyday.
For locals who haven’t taken a spin on the Z yet, it’s a 30-foot-high, 220-foot-long cable zipline located right near Faneuil Hall between Clinton and North streets. The summer pop-up ride offers amazing views of many of the city’s scenic sites, including the Greenway Carousel as well as downtown Boston.
As for the Boston Ballet’s show of dancing bears and sugarplum faries, “The Nutcracker” will return to the city for its sixth consecutive year at the Boston Opera House on Nov. 24 and will run through New Year’s Eve. The performance features the classic music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky as well as choreography by the company’s acclaimed aritistic director and Finnish ballet star Mikko Nissinen.
