President Trump welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe to the White House with a tremendous handshake – a tremendously uncomfortable handshake.
And then there was the stare.
About 20 seconds into the awkward hand holding, including a few pats on Abe’s hand by Trump, Trump pulled his guest in by his arm and asked “What are they saying?” referring to the Japanese-speaking photographers. “Please look at me,” Abe translated.
So, Trump did. For the remainder of the handshake, Trump would not take his eyes off of Abe.
After the photo op, Trump joked that Abe has very strong hands, but did not comment on their size.
