The internet is very confused about John Cena and Nikki Bella right now — but it sounds like they are, too. The wrestling world couple and their horde of adoring fans were looking forward to the two tying the knot until a very sudden John Cena and Nikki Bella breakup last month that left everyone scratching their heads. Will the premiere of Total Bellas season 3, Nikki’s show with her twin sister Brie, shed some light on the whole thing? We can only hope.
Things just aren’t adding up, which has left several publications wondering if the split-up isn’t just a publicity stunt on the part of John Cena and Nikki Bella to help promote the upcoming premiere of Total Bellas season 3 on E!. After all, Cena boasts a stronger following and some of Bella’s current clout is thanks to their relationship.
Things seemed simple enough when the couple released a joint statement on Instagram that read:
“After much contemplation and 6 years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple. While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”
But John Cena recently appeared on the Today Show and seemed to muddy the waters. He opened up about the breakup with Bella claiming he still wanted to be with the WWe star and didn’t want them to part in the first place.
“I still love Nicole, I still would love to marry Nicole, I still would love to have a family with Nicole,” he said on the show. “There was an unfortunate set of circumstances where our relationship ended. There’s been a lot of speculation recently about me being seen in public, and everyone’s been like, ‘Oh John Cena’s enjoying the single life.’ No, I was supposed to be married and have a honeymoon over these two weeks. I am in my house alone surrounded by these emotionally strong memories.”

But is it all just a promotion for the premiere of Total Bellas? Nikki was asked about Cena’s comments hours later and her only response was, “Well I’m speechless. Yeah, that’s crazy.” Asked a little later about the split, she gave a warmer answer, claiming she just wants them to “live happily ever after whether it’s together or separate.”
She had much more to say, however, about her relationship with John Cena and what you’re going to see when Total Bellas kicks off this weekend. “I have to say it’s going to be definitely very hard to relive and it’s hard to document it, but at the same time, the Bella Army has been on this incredible journey with John and I and you know all the viewers at E! and I feel like I would be cheating them if I was to take away all that footage because it’s real life,” Bella told E! News of the upcoming Total Bellas season 3. “We go through these ups and downs and we wedding plan — we could be on cloud nine, but then sometimes it makes you just face a lot of things that are going on in your life and you truly see that this season.”

Maybe the show will shed more light on the situation, even if it reveals that the recent emotional roller coaster was only for promotional purposes. Total Bellas season 3 kicks off Sunday, May 20 at 9:00 p.m. EST on E!
Total Bellas season 3 episode 1, fittingly titled “Have You Cena?,” teases among other things that “Nikki and John have an honest conversation about major life decisions.” It’s doubtful the first episode of Total Bellas season 3 will tell us much we don’t already know, but maybe things will actually start to make sense as the season unfolds.
