While most people were recovering from their New Year’s Eve celebrations, Netflix surprised fans with a teaser trailer and new poster announcing the Stranger Things season 3 premiere date.
What is Stranger Things season 3 about?
What little we do know about the Stranger Things season 3 story can be gleaned from these brief teases. For starters, there’s the poster, which features Eleven looking back at the viewer while holding Mike’s (Finn Wolfhard) hand. Will (Noah Schnapp) is also looking back while everyone else in the poster is in awe of a fireworks display in the sky. Two fleshy, slimy appendages of some sort are stepping into the scene, and the grown is beginning to darken, suggesting that something ominous is coming for them.

There’s also the teaser trailer, which doesn’t actually have any footage from season 3 in it. Instead, it cuts between shots of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 1985 and a computer screen. The latter reveals the mysterious phrase “WHEN BLUE AND YELLOW MEET IN THE WEST” amid a flurry of code, then a command prompt through which the user launches the “SilverCatFeeds.exe” program.
Again, we have no way to know what any of this means, but what we do know is that Hawkins, Indiana (and possibly the rest of the world) are in for a rude awakening this summer. After the tagline “ONE SUMMER CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING” flashes across the screen, the teaser shows Clark, the city of New York and the celebratory fireworks display turning 180 degrees. It’s almost as if the Upside Down is about to break loose upon the real world.
When does Stranger Things season 3 premiere?
According to Netflix, Stranger Things season 3 will begin streaming on Thursday, July 4, 2019. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Steve (Joe Keery), Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and the rest of Hawkins, Indiana residents who survived the first two seasons will return for another adventure involving the so-called “Upside Down.” Aside from the teaser trailer and the poster, however, Netflix had little to say about what the latest installment’s story would entail.
