As former UFC heavyweight championBrock Lesnar continues to fake fight in WWE, Phil Brooks aka CM Punk is getting ready to make his announcement as to when he will make his MMA debut in UFC’s all-too-real octagon. Punk will be in his hometown of Chicago this Friday, July 24ahead of the UFC on FOX 16 card, headlined by T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao. The longest reigning WWE world heavyweight champ of the modern era will hold a Q&A session at the United Center with fans following the weigh-in at 4 p.m. Central. It’s expected that Punk will finally let everyone know when and who he’ll be fighting this coming weekend either in the Q&A or during the FOX broadcast Saturday night. “His deal is, he can call me and when he’s ready to fight, he calls me and it’s on man,” UFC head honcho Dana White told TMZ earlier this month. “I’m thinking early [2016].” Punk declared his intent to fight in UFC in December 2015. He last performed in WWE in January of 2014 at that year’s Royal Rumble.
Punk told MMAJunkiethis week that he won’t have to “sell” his first fight WWE-style.
“I feel my fight already sells itself,” he said. “There’s a curiosity factor, but I don’t think I’ll be that guy that manufactures some kind of phony beef to try to sell a fight … [But] if I fight somebody I generally dislike, then it’s on.”
