When will Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather fight happen?

What is it with sports thinking they’re bigger than New Year’s Eve?

The College Football Playoff was a ratings disaster last NYE and now Floyd “Money” Mayweather wants to fight Conor McGregor on the final night of 2016. Mayweatherhas offered McGregor $50 million to fight him in Las Vegas that night, according to TMZ Sports.

That figure is bound to go up as Mayweather earned well over $200 million for his fight last year with Manny Pacquiao, and there is the elephant in the room of the UFC having to get a substantial cut of the figure considering McGregor is UFC property.

McGregor finally seems to be back on good terms with UFC boss Dana White and it’s for sure that the prospect of a McGregor – Mayweather fight was broached with McGregor and White met this past Wednesday night.

“[It was a] good conversation like it always is,” McGregor told ESPN of his talk with White on Wednesday. “We have a good relationship. It is what it is. It happens. This is the fight game. Sometimes emotions get into it. But it’s important to recognize that emotions have no place in business. That’s essentially what it was last night. We just set it aside. There’s no place for emotions in this. We are doing beautiful things. So let’s continue. Let’s fix it and let’s continue.”

Mayweather, McGregor and the UFC would be wise to stay away from New Year’s Eve, however, particularly considering the holiday falls on a Saturday this year. The folks who run the College Football Playoff have already bumped the scheduled start times of their semi-final games up an hour after viewership fell considerably as things crept toward the midnight hour. Mega UFC and boxing events routinely begin close to midnight, so maybe that was the reason for Mayweather’s low-ball $50 million proposal.
