Where to find summer seafood deals in NYC

seafood crawfish Summer is seafood season, which can get pricey unless you know where to get a good deal.

There are tons of seafood choices in Manhattan, and most of it is generally good — or it wouldn’t last long here. But there are definitely a few gems that impress me on every visit. The best deals for sushi occur at lunchtime when entrees include soup, salad or dessert. If you’re a late diner, stop by Atlantic Grill for half-price oysters at the bar after 9 p.m.

Flex Mussels

154 W. 13th St.; 174 E. 82nd St. The mussels here are in their own category, steamed and sauteed to perfection and served with 20 sauces. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. daily at the bar and counter, order the $25 special: two pots of mussels (choose from three flavors), fries and one beer or glass of wine. I have converted several people to liking mussels by bringing them to Flex.

Amber

Four locations. The decor is hip and modern, but the prices are down to earth. The spicy tuna and avocado salad ($8) is bursting with fresh tuna and tangy zip. Rolls start at $5.25 and specialty rolls at $16. The lunch special comes with soup, salad and a side from $11. Brunch on weekends from noon to 4 p.m. comes with the same and includes two alcoholic drinks for $15.

The Mermaid Inn

Three locations. This family-friendly place reminds me of a comfortable fishing village restaurant on the beach. The discounted appetizers from 5-7 p.m. range from $3-$6. Oysters (a must here) and clams are only $1. I like the fish tacos and the shrimp sliders. Try an Aperol Spritz for $7.
