Black Friday shopping can be chaotic, sometimes violent and occasionally disappointing. For shoppers who want to spend less time browsing the racks and more time getting great deals, a new report has named the best stores to do just that. WalletHub, a personal finance website, crunched the numbers of 8,000 Black Friday store deals from 35 of the largest national retailers, and identified which ones offer the biggest discounts, including by category. Macy’s topped the list, with an average 63 percent discount for Black Friday shoppers.
Other national retailers that made the top 10 were Kohl’s, which came in sixth, with an average 58 percent discount, and Sears, in 10th place with 44percent.
On average, shoppers can expect to save about 39 percent on Black Friday. WalletHub encourages shoppers to aim for that discount amount or higher to avoid traps.
WalletHub also analyzed on which items shoppers can expect to save the most. Deal seekers buying jewelry or clothing and accessories will save the most, with savings averaging 65 percent and 45 percent in each category, respectively. But there’s bad news for parents: the pre-Christmas shopping event doesn’t bring great savings on toys, which on average only see about a 33 percent discount. At big-box retailer Target, toys are only about 17 percent off. Although Cyber Monday has been touted in recent years as offering better deals for shoppers than Black Friday, WalletHubfound Amazon.com’s average discount at 24 percent, down from 25 percent last year.
