Where to party hard for Labor Day in Boston

Labor Day might mean summer is really ending, but there’s no reason not to celebrate the holiday in style. And hey, you’ve survived the annual musical chairs of moving that is Sept. 1 in the Boston-area, so you’ve already made it through the worst part of the month. But what if you don’t have a barbecue to attend? Not to worry, there’s still plenty to do around the city. Here are our picks.

Boston Harbor Fireworks

You can’t go wrong with fireworks set off over the harbor on a cool summer evening. The city is setting off fireworks from barges along the waterfront, from both the NOrthNorth End and the Seaport. While the show starts at 9 p.m.on Saturday, you’ll probably want to get there a bit early to make sure you get a good viewing spot. Try Christopher Columbus Park or the Long Wharf in the North End, the South Boston Waterfront, or Piers Park in East Boston for better vantage points.

Pier 6 Barbecue

Head out to Charlestown for a barbecue you don’t have to cook or clean up after. Pier 6 will be serving up barbecue starting at 2 p.m., and if you stick around long enough, you can watch the fireworks from their patio. The menu is set at $30, which gets you a plate of the BBQ of your choice (baby back ribs, chicken or steak kabobs, or a hamburger) plus a wedge of watermelon, corn on the cob, and a 16 oz glass of Harpoon Ale. Shake Shack holiday specials

Given how hard it is to get a seat in Shake Shack at the best of times, we’re guessing they’re going to be completely swamped this weekend. You can now get a special holiday Shack corn dog for only $4.50, or a peach pie concrete for $4.25 (or $6.75 if you are on a very romantic date and want to share). The concrete is vanilla custard mixed with a slice of peach pie, while the corn dog comes with a sweet corn relish. They’ll be available from the 4th to the 7th, and if you can’t make it then, make sure to check back in when they start Shacktoberfest, with German-themed burgers and beer later in the month.

Dance the night away with Joe Jonas

You’ve always wanted to celebrate Labor Day with a Jonas brother, right? The moment has finally arrived: Foxwoodshas Joe Jonas lined up to DJ this Sunday, at what the casino bills as “the Northeast’s only Vegas style pool party.” That may be because it’s generally too cold to have pool parties here, but hey, it’s still hot out! Put your dancing shoes on and go see Joe spin the hits. Doors open at noon, and tickets are $50.

Campfire Festival at Club Passim

Club Passim’s annual Labor Day weekend music festival is packed to the gills with a diverse array of musicians. True to the “campfire” spirit, there’s a casual air to the weekend. In Passim’s words, it’s “as much about the community as it is about the music,” with artists often joining each other for sets, and a porous barrier between audience and performer.
