Starting on Tuesday, New Yorkers will be able to take an NYC Ferry from Astoria to the Financial District. Ahead of the ferry service’s final route launch of 2017, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has announced the five stops it will make during the 45-minute trip.
• Astoria at Hallets Cove (3-10 Astoria Blvd.)
• Roosevelt Island (104 Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge)
• Long Island City at Gantry State Park (47th Road)
• East 34th Street (FDR Drive)
• Wall Street/Pier 11 (Gouverneur Lane at South Street/FDR Drive)
At the 34th Street and Wall Street landings, passengers will be able to transfer to the other routes of the NYC Ferry.
The Astoria route joins NYC Ferry’s East River, Rockaway and South Brooklyn routes. The latter two launched in May, and the service has seen more than 1.4 million passengers since then, the NYCEDC said.
Additional routes to the Lower East Side and Clason Point in the Soundview section of the Bronx are slated to launch next summer.
Once the final routes are added next year, the Hornblower-operated ferry service will cover more than 60 miles of New York City waterways.
That mileage will likely expand in the future as a 56,000-square-foot homeport for NYC Ferry is currently under construction at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The port will provide storage for up to 25 ships as well as parts, supplies and more — and be a stop on the Lower East Side route when it launches.
As with the MetroCard for buses and subways, ferry rides cost $2.75 or $121 for a 30-day unlimited pass.
