Rescuers sought survivors of sunken China ship

The captain of a tourist cruiser carrying 458 passengers along the Yangtze River was detained after it capsized during a storm. So far just a dozen or so have been freed from the upturned boat as atrocious weather is hampering rescue efforts.

U.S. airport security staff missed mock weapons

Security is going to get a shakedown after it was revealed that staff screening luggage failed to detect fake explosives and weapons in 95% of covert tests run by undercover agents. In one case, an agent set off an alarm but airport screeners failed to find a fake explosive taped to his back when they patted him down.

A new Fifty Shades book was announced

You’ll only have to wait another few weeks for the latest installment of the Grey erotic blockbuster sage. This one is written from the perspective of the books’ ‘complex’ protagonist Christian Grey, says author E.L.James.

Caitlyn Jenner broke records

After revealing her new look on the cover of Vanity Fair, Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, launched her twitter career with a flourish too. Her account broke the record for the fastest to reach 1m followers, beating a recent record set by Barack Obama.

Stonewall Inn anticipated landmark status

As Caitlyn Jenner became a new LGBT icon, an older LGBT icon was poised to get official recognition. Greenwich Village gay bar Stonewall Inn, credited as the birthplace of U.S. gay rights, is on course to get historic landmark status after the NYC’s Landmarks Preservation Commission discusses its case today.
