In overall protest against recounted sexual harassment in Hollywood and in response to TIME’S UP, an initiative fronted by 300+ celebrities and industry natives opposing such harassment, the 75th Annual Golden Globes red carpet features a lot of black.
Officially announced Monday, the campaign is backed by celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon, America Ferrera, Shonda Rhimes, Kerry Washington, Brie Larson and others. TIME’S UP has already raised over $15 million for a Legal Defense Fund administrated by the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) that “will provide subsidized legal support” to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault or abuse in the workplace.

They’ve partnered with the group 5050by2020 to achieve a workplace model where, by the year 2020, “women are equally represented at every level.” And in December, TIME’S UP also launched the Commission on Eliminating Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace.
Women (and men) at Sunday night’s Golden Globes are sporting black to raise awareness for this expansive cause. PEOPLE reported that notable names include Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep and Emma Stone.
Before the holidays, Hollywood stylist Ilaria Urbinati posted to Instagram that all of her “guys” would be participating alongside these women. Her clients include Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who commented, “Yes we will,” Tom Hiddleston, Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer.
Golden Globes 2018 host Seth Meyers told Us Weekly during an exclusive interview at Thursday’s Awards Preview in Beverly Hills that he thinks “it’s important that no guy tries to take credit for wearing a black tuxedo,” though he confirmed he’ll be wearing black.
“With that said, I think that the solidarity we’re seeing right now is really exciting because even though this was a remarkably bad year in what we heard, there’s also this real chance and I feel like opportunity for optimism going forward, especially when you see the solidarity,” Meyers continued, “and you see how these really smart, really empathetic women are coming together as one, so I think this is hopefully the beginning of that.”
Reese Witherspoon asked costume designer Arianne Phillips to also design TIME’S UP pins for supporters to wear at the Golden Globes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Phillips, in collaboration with Los Angeles jewelry designer Michael Schmidt, manufactored 500 of these pins in just two weeks.

Witherspoon will walk alongside actress and TIME’S UP member Eva Longoria on the red carpet.
“For years, we’ve sold these award shows as women, with our gowns and colors and our beautiful faces and our glamour,” Longoria said in a statement. “This time the industry can’t expect us to go up and twirl around. That’s not what this moment is about.”
As Giuliana Rancic — who returned to E! for tonight’s exclusive red carpet coverage — said, “The question isn’t ‘what are you wearing?’ it’s ‘why are you wearing black?'”
