Woman disguised as Target worker steals $40k in iPhones: Police

The search is on for a woman in Virginia for a woman who police say made off with $40,000 worth of iPhones while disguised as a Target employee.

On the morning of March 15, an unidentified woman dressed as a Target worker managed to access the stock room at the Target at 6600 Richmond Highway in Alexandria, authorities said. Shelocated a box with dozens of the new iPhones without raising eyebrows or alarms.

Surveillance footage from various cameras around the Target store shows a dark-haired woman with a name badge and an ID card hanging around her neck, as she causally pushes a red shopping cart out the door at 10:03 a.m.

Inside the cart was a cardboard box full of iPhones worth more than $40,000, police said.

She then can be seen in the parking lot with the cart as a Volvo station wagonapproached. The video camera captures her loading the box into the trunk and getting into the back passenger’s seat. The car backs up and turns around before driving off.

Fairfax County police are trying to identify the grand larceny suspect, who was not associated with the store, but was apparently aware of store procedures, employee hours — and where to find the iPhones.

Other creative thieves have targeted Target before. On December 16, 2016, two thieves cut a hole in the roof of a Target in Barrow County, Georgia, and lowered themselves into the store. They strolled around the store before raiding the electronics department and grabbing an unknown amount of cash—and then exited through the hole.
