A 33-year-old woman fended off a man who tried to sexually assault her as she walked through her apartment door in Washington Heights, police said.
NYPD is on the lookout for the suspect, who investigators said followed the woman into her apartment building on West 172nd Street on early Saturday morning.
RELATED: Cops bust 35 cocaine dealers in Washington Heights round-up Cops said the assailant, described only as a black man, followed the woman into her elevator at around 1 a.m. and waited for her to step off the building.
He then followed her as she opened the front door of her apartment when he suddenly jumped on her and attempted to rape her, officials said Wednesday.

Security video footage of the suspect shows the man wearing a short-sleeved red shirt, dark pants, a baseball cap with a red brim and a backpack.
