A Wyoming woman playing a newly released Pokémon game that incorporates augmented reality technology found something a lot more unsettling than one of the game’s cartoon creatures Friday morning. Pokémon GO is a new smartphone game released this monththat encourages players to find its titular characters hidden throughout the physical world, incorporating the phone’s camera to “reveal” the collectible beasts in real-life locations. 19-year-old Shayla Wiggins told local news station KTVQ that she was playing the game along the Wind River in Riverton Friday, even jumping a fence in her hunt for Pokémon.
“The Pokemons are all over Riverton,” she told local news station KTVQ. “I was trying to get a Pokemon from a natural water resource.” “I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water,” Shayla reportedly said. “I had to take a second look and I realized it was a body.”
“It was pretty shocking,” Shayla reportedly said. “I didn’t really know what to do at first. But I called 911 right away and they came really quickly.”
Officials believe that the body was in the water for less than 24 hours, and that foul play is not believed to have been a factor in the death.
