Woman threatens to ‘shoot and kill people at random,’ bomb Worcester school: Police

A food service worker at Worcester Polytechnic Institute was arrested for allegedly saying that she wanted to bomb and randomly shoot people on campus.

Heather Lyons, 23, who works for a university food service vendor, was arrested on a charge of bomb/hijack threat with serious public alarm according to MassLive.

She allegedly revealed to her therapist that she had written out her violent plans in a journal. The therapist then urged her to go to a hospital, where she was involuntarily committed, WCVB reported.

While there, she also made threats against the university, and police were called, according to MassLive. Authorities said Lyons revealed her plans to not only “shoot and kill people at random,” but also specifically her boss at the school. They also talked to the therapist, who told them about the journal and that an incident atLyons’job had been bothering her.

“She had printed out bomb making plans from the Internet, but had not purchased any bomb making materials,” police said, according to MassLive. “She did not have any partners in the plan and had not discussed it with anyone. In her plans she had considered how many bombs, firearms and clips she would need. She does not have access to firearms.”

At her arraignment Lyons was held without bail and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, MassLive said.
