YouTube is celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, which is March 8, in a huge way. Today, the video platform site announced two new partnerships, giving appointed female video creators from around the world new ways to promote global gender equality. Related: The best and worst states for women Through a year-long partnership with the United Nations, YouTube has enlisted seven top YouTubers from around the world (including Ingrid Nilsen, Chika Yoshida from Japan and Yuya from Mexico) to expose gender injustices, such as countries where girls aren’t allowed to attend school. Today they also announced another partnership, with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, a nonprofit devoted to create more gender equality in film and TV.Fifty new videos will be produced, highlighting female creators, both in front and behind the camera, and various workshops will be held at the YouTube spaces all over the world. A new YouTube board of Creative Directors (which includes YouTubersAlexys Flemingfrom the US,Em Fordfrom the UK, andJulia Veiga Fariafrom Brazil) has been created to mentor emerging creators on how to create videos with a big impact. “YouTube has always been a platform where women of all ages and backgrounds can find their voice and tell their stories,” says YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki in a press release. “Through our global YouTube Spaces program and new partnership with the UN, we’ll strengthen female voices on YouTube and around the world.” Follow Emily on Twitter: @EmLaurence
